Salon Girlz
Shhh... Secrets told in Hair Salons
A book consisting of a hilarious collection of stories revealed in hair salons.
Calling all SalonGirlz! Whether you are a hairdresser, own a salon or just enjoy going to salons,
we are asking SalonGirlz across the nation to submit funny stories of things that have
happened in their hair salon.
The top 100 or so funniest stories will be selected for publication in a book
in the Spring 2007 called Salon Girlz: Shhh...Secrets told in Hair Salons tm.
Net proceeds from the book will help victims of domestic violence in two ways:
A "Victoria Scholarship" will be established for domestic violence survivors to enable
them to lead a financially feasible life away from violence, and, the
American Domestic Violence Crisis Line will establish a crisis services fund to help victims escape
domestic violence.
At the end of this book of humorous events, powerful messages about the trappings
of family violence will be explained to help educate. People love to laugh and we
want to use the power of humor to reach out, and then teach about this serious social
problem of domestic violence.
A survey commissioned by Liz Claiborne Inc. in 2000 and 2005 and released in September
2006, revealed an information gap that may very well prevent Americans from taking
action when they witness domestic violence. Approximately 2/3 of Americans say it
is hard to determine whether someone has been a victim of domestic abuse (64%) and
want more information about what to do when confronted with domestic violence (65%).
Poll results clearly indicate that education about this topic is not only needed,
but can help save lives since 7 in 10 Americans (69%) will take some action when they
are able to recognize domestic violence.
(For more information on the survey, please visit www.loveisnotabuse.com)
While the book will have 90% humor content, 10% of the content is dedicated to
domestic violence education dealing with the most common questions such as "Why don't
children tell?", "Why doesn't she just leave?" Both victim and non victim will gain
understanding as to why abuse continues. You can help us help someone in your community,
child or adult have a better life
There will also be a page of domestic violence resources
